Emerging from our cocoons of protectiveness, from the virtual to the real, Qigong outside, inside, virtually and Shiatsu on the move……

As we enter a new era of change, with much uncertainty, some trepidation, courage and open heartedness, trusting that is okay to emerge safely from our cocoons of protectiveness, we look forward to returning to work, from the virtual to the real, when what was considered normal and natural is still natural but no longer normal,we find new ways to teach and share our healing touch.

We are now able to return to the spaces and places we love to work as safely as possible, healthily and with joy in our hearts. We have received protocols for working safely with Shiatsu from the Shiatsu Society fully in accordance with the government guidelines. Health Centres, Spas and Gyms are allowed to open from Saturday, 25th July with clear protocols and restrictions and our beloved Well Being Centre opened on Monday, 27th July, the Big Yurt limited to 4 students in a private class or small workshop, the Small yurt available for 1 to 1 treatments and our lawn covered with a small, open sided marquee for outdoor classes and workshops for 11 students. “Touch your inner space, which is nothingness, as silent and empty as the sky; it is your inner sky. Once you settle down in your inner sky, you have come home, and a great maturity arises in your actions, in your behaviour. Then whatever you do has grace in it. Then whatever you do is a poetry in itself. You live poetry; your walking becomes dancing, your silence becomes music.” ~Osho

As you become more sensitive to Qi in your Qigong practice, you will become more sensitive to Qi in your everyday life. This opens new avenues of perception and awareness.

“This moment humanity is going through can now be seen as a portal and as a hole.  The decision to fall into the hole or go through the portal is up to you.  If they repent of the problem and consume the news 24 hours a day, with little energy, nervous all the time, with pessimism, they will fall into the hole.  But if you take this opportunity to look at yourself, rethink life and death, take care of yourself and others, you will cross the portal.  Take care of your home, take care of your body.  Connect with the middle body of your spiritual House.  Connect to the egregor of your spiritual home.  Body, house, medium body, spiritual house, all this is synonymous, that is to say the same.  When you are taking care of one, you are taking care of everything else.  Do not lose the spiritual dimension of this crisis, have the aspect of the eagle, which from above, sees the whole, sees more widely.  There is a social demand in this crisis, but there is also a spiritual demand.  The two go hand in hand.  Without the social dimension, we fall into fanaticism.  But without the spiritual dimension, we fall into pessimism and lack of meaning. You were prepared to go through this crisis.  Take your toolbox and use all the tools at your disposal.  Learn about resistance with indigenous and African peoples: we have always been and continue to be exterminated.  But we still haven’t stopped singing, dancing, lighting a fire and having fun.  Don’t feel guilty about being happy during this difficult time.  You don’t help at all by being sad and without energy.  It helps if good things emanate from the Universe now.  It is through joy that one resists.  Also, when the storm passes, you will be very important in the reconstruction of this new world.  You need to be well and strong.  And, for that, there is no other way than to maintain a beautiful, happy and bright vibration.  This has nothing to do with alienation.  This is a resistance strategy.  In shamanism, there is a rite of passage called the quest for vision.  You spend a few days alone in the forest, without water, without food, without protection.  When you go through this portal, you get a new vision of the world, because you have faced your fears, your difficulties … This is what is asked of you.  Let them take advantage of this time to perform their vision seeking rituals.  What world do you want to build for yourself?  For now, this is what you can do: serenity in the storm.  Calm down and pray.  Everyday.  Establish a routine to meet the sacred every day.  Good things emanate, what you emanate now is the most important thing.  And sing, dance, resist through art, joy, faith and love.”

SHIATSU TREATMENTS and QIGONG CLASSES through the pandemic and how to boost your immune system

With the latest advice from the Government to social distance and avoid any gatherings I have decided to stop doing Shiatsu treatments, cancel all my classes and workshops from tomorrow, Wednesday,17th March for the foreseeable future.I know that many of you will miss your Qigong classes, workshops and Shiatsu treatments. I hope that someday in the not too far distant future, the workshops, clinics and classes you enjoy so much and look forward to will be there for you to experience. In the meantime we must do all we can to ensure that those who are the most vulnerable receive the best possible support to maintain good health. As challenging as these times are, this is a wonderful opportunity to do some of those things you have been meaning to do for some time and never have the time to do, to build and support community, and be increasingly aware of the value and beauty of all the relationships we share….!

Thanks to Tess John for sharing these beautiful words by Kitty O’Meara.

“And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.

“And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.

“And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.”

How we can boost our immune system

It feels good to do the best for your body in challenging times……Good health begins with what you put into your body….. here are some herbs, foods and home remedies that boost your immune system.

Vitamin C is an important vitamin for the immune system as it helps us make antibodies and immune cells to protect us against viruses and bacteria. Up your food intake of vitamin C by eating kiwis, citrus, green vegetables, cabbage and sauerkraut.

Vitamin A is essential for the integrity of mucous membranes in the body, especially the respiratory system. It stops bacteria and viruses from passing through the lining, causing inflammation and damaging cells. You can get vitamin A from orange and yellow vegetables (carrots, sweet potatoes, oranges), broccoli, spinach, kale, cod liver oil and eggs.

Vitamin D plays a pivotal role in helping our bodies to ward off infection. It helps our T cells (our “soldier” immune cells) to seek out foreign invaders and destroy them.
Food sources include cod liver oil, hemp oil, flaxseeds, bone broths, mackerel, salmon, Chanterelle mushrooms and egg yolks.
Zinc is a vital mineral required for over 300 processes in the body, including cell growth and repair. We need zinc for our immune systems to work efficiently. It helps our T cells to do their job and protects our cells from viruses. Food sources of zinc include oysters, chickpeas, lentils, beans, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, cashews and almonds.

Probiotics help to restore gut microflora, especially when there is an overgrowth of bad bacteria which may be contributing to lowered immune system function. Fermented foods can provide a good source of probiotics; eat kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha and kimchi.

Herbs to boost immune system
Here are some of our favourite immune-boosting herbs:

Echinacea is a go-to immune herb for many people and there’s a good reason why. Echinacea has immune enhancing and lymphatic properties making it an excellent herb for viral infections. It helps to increase your white blood cell count so your body can fight off infections efficiently.

Thyme is a fantastic antibacterial and antimicrobial herb which is great for clearing catarrh, coughs and sore throats.

Elderberry is indicated where there is a virus due to its immune enhancing and antiviral compounds. This is a nice herb to give to children as a tincture or a wild-crafted elderberry syrup.

Wild Cherry and Mullein are amazing lung herbs with antitussive and anti-catarrhal properties (to stop you coughing and reduce mucous); both are indicated for dry coughs, pneumonia and influenza.

Propolis is another great immune-boosting herb due to its antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant activity. It helps with most cold and flu-related symptoms including sinus pain and sore throats.
Herbs are best taken as a liquid herbal, tincture, tablet or capsule for therapeutic benefit.

A qualified herbalist is able to formulate a liquid herbal specific to you and the symptoms you’re experiencing.

Home remedies to relieve flu symptoms
Simple home remedies can be very effective for relieving flu symptoms. Here’s some we recommend:
Salt water gargles are perfect for sore throats. Use Himalayan salt as it contains less toxins and more minerals.
Head saunas/ steam baths. Add 3 – 5 drops of organic lavender essential oil to a bowl of steaming water before bed. Lavender is antiviral, antibacterial and sleep-promoting. It also gives mild pain relief. Avoid using citrus, eucalyptus or tea tree essential oils, especially with children and the sensitive elderly, as these oils are quite strong and can cause sensitivity.
Raw honey, lemon, ginger and garlic in hot water and sip. This immune tea works wonders!

Use one of our simple home remedies to soothe a sore throat, clear sinuses and relieve a dry cough. Make your immune health a priority to avoid getting sick.

“Touch your inner space, which is nothingness, as silent and empty as the sky; it is your inner sky. Once you settle down in your inner sky, you have come home, and a great maturity arises in your actions, in your behavior. Then whatever you do has grace in it. Then whatever you do is a poetry in itself. You live poetry; your walking becomes dancing, your silence becomes music.” Osho

These workshops are proving very popular and are a joy for me to teach. I  now run these workshops once a month in the countryside in the Big Yurt at the Well Being Centre, Stone Cross. Come and join us on  SATURDAY, 18th January, 15th February,14th March from 3.30 – 5.30pm in the Big Yurt at the Well Being Centre, Stone Cross. We shall be exploring the power of the breath through gentle, flowing movements and stillness, connecting with our own energy and that of nature.

These workshops explore the nature of Qi through the five elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), five elements or five phases theory outlines the relationship between the different elements in nature and the life force, or “Qi,” that flows through them. The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

The ancient art of Qigong , derived from the Chinese “qi” and “gong” means working with the life force to develop vitality, strength, and wellbeing, is also a path to greater self awareness and understanding of our true nature.
Meditation has been practiced for thousands of years and can be done by people of all faith traditions. With the practice of meditation the mind settles and a sense of ease, tranquility and joy arise. This can  lead to insight and wisdom.

There is tea and cake to share afterwards and  you are very welcome to bring something to share. Investment: £18.00. To book a place please contact Nick Neter on 07773061309 or email handswork@tiscali.co.uk. A non returnable deposit of £18 is requested to secure your place.

Exploring Qi and the Magic of Touch with Nick Neter and Louise Burt

Saturday, 12th October 3.30-6.00 pm

This new series of workshops explores the nature of Qi through the five elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Using Qigong, meditation, breathwork, art, Shiatsu touch and the senses we shall be working to understand, increase and develop our own awareness of the Qi.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), five elements or five phases theory outlines the relationship between the different elements in nature and the life force, or “Qi,” that flows through them. The five elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water.

In this Metal element workshop we shall be working with the Lung and Large Intestines channels, with emphasis of letting go, making space for the new, the Po (the corporeal soul) associated with immediate desires and the emotion of grief.

The intention is to have a better understanding of each element as it occurs in nature during the year and how that works in our bodies, hearts and minds. Using Qigong, Shiatsu, Meditation, the Breath and Art work, we shall explore the qualities of each element and through simple exercises enable each participant to deeply connect and explore each element’s qualities. In so doing we shall share our Shiatsu Touch with each other to effect ease, flow, flexibility and an increased sense of well being.

Places are limited to 8 people and the investment is £30. We ask for payment in advance to secure your place.

 THE SHIATSU CLINICS

In these difficult and changing  times THE SHIATSU CLINICS continue to be very popular, with a mixture of regular clients who love to receive Shiatsu but cannot afford regular prices and new clients who would like to experience Shiatsu at a cost of their choosing. These clinics provide a wonderful opportunity to have a deeply relaxing, revitalizing  and healing  Shiatsu treatment from a fully qualified Shiatsu Practitioner for a  small donation (suggested from £10 for a half hour,£20 for an hour). Truly excellent  value. All appointments are available for booking or take a chance and just drop in and we shall endeavour to see you as soon as possible. All treatments  are bookable by text or phone to 0777306309.

We  offer one regular Saturday clinic a month at the WELL BEING CENTRE at STONE CROSS. In addition we are looking at the possibility of taking the NATURAL FITNESS CENTRE clinic on the road in the Spring, visiting a variety of different locations such as St Wilfrids Hospice, East Dean and Polegate. Watch this space. For more details see below……

QIGONG, MEDITATION and the MAGIC of the BREATH

Winter Web

“Touch your inner space, which is nothingness, as silent and empty as the sky; it is your inner sky. Once you settle down in your inner sky, you have come home, and a great maturity arises in your actions, in your behavior. Then whatever you do has grace in it. Then whatever you do is a poetry in itself. You live poetry; your walking becomes dancing, your silence becomes music.” ~Osho

These workshops are proving very popular and are a joy for me to teach. I  run these workshops once a month in the countryside in the Big Yurt at the Well Being Centre, Stone Cross. Come and join us on  SATURDAY, 13th JANUARY, 10th FEBRUARY, 17th MARCH, 14th APRIL  from 3.30 – 5.30pm in the Big Yurt at the Well Being Centre, Stone Cross. We shall be exploring the power of the breath through gentle, flowing movements and stillness, connecting with our own energy and that of nature.

Investment: £15.00. To book a place please contact Nick Neter on 07773061309 or email handswork@tiscali.co.uk. A non returnable deposit of £15 is requested to secure your place.
